Unit 7: Contractual administration and procedures for the site supervisor - Level 3
Unit Summary
This unit concerns the knowledge and skills required to demonstrate an understanding of the site supervisor's role relating to:
- policies and procedures instituted by employers
- tendering procedures, types of contract and obligations of the parties to a contract
- human resources and employment legislation
- effective use of materials, plant and equipment
- effective working methods and accurate measured performance
- programming and progressing of construction based activities
- health, safety and welfare
- site based administrative procedures.
This unit is divided into twelve outcomes which may be studied separately. Alternatively, you may use occupational evidence for accreditation of each outcome, separately or collectively.
Aims
This unit aims to enable candidates to:
- acquire an understanding of a range of contractual administration procedures required of a site supervisor
- gain a working knowledge of pro-forma required in construction contracts and for the efficient, effective and safe management of a construction site.
Outcomes
On successful completion of the unit the candidate will be able to:
- identify the general purposes, objectives and responsibilities covered by a company policy
- explain the on-site policies administered by the site supervisor
- explain and describe methods of cost control
- explain tendering procedures and interpret contractual obligations relating to the performance of the parties
- demonstrate effective communication procedures within and outside of the site team
- manage human resources on site and explain employment legislation
- manage and control the use of materials, plant and equipment on site
- manage and monitor systems of working to maximise performance
- demonstrate an understanding of programming and progressing techniques for construction based activities
- implement procedures to ensure effective safety, health and welfare arrangements
- make a risk assessment and produce a safe working procedure for a site based activity
- prepare an effective site layout for construction work.
Assessment
The outcomes of this unit will be assessed on the production of a portfolio of work demonstrating an understanding of the role of the site supervisor:
- relative to the structure of an organisation and delegated responsibilities for cost control,
- in complying with contractual arrangements, tendering procedures and statutory legislation,
- in establishing effective communications and administrative systems for efficient site working,
- relative to the management of human, plant and material resources and the recruitment of site operatives,
- in implementing risk assessments, safe working procedures and statutory health, safety and welfare legislation,
- establishing an effective site layout.
The portfolio must contain written material, diagrams, graphs, charts, networks, drawings, standard and developed pro-forma.
